Tampa International Airport will suspend all commercial and cargo operations beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Milton, with the airport remaining closed to the public until it can assess any damage after the storm.
St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, which is in a mandatory evacuation zone, will close after the last flight on Tuesday due to Hurricane Milton.
Allegiant Air has canceled all flights Wednesday and Thursday. Travelers are encouraged to contact airlines directly for information about when flights will resume.
Schools
St. Petersburg College will be closed from Monday, Oct. 7, through Thursday, Oct. 10. All campuses and offices will be closed during this time. Scheduled activities during these days also are canceled.
Public schools in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties have canceled classes Monday, Oct. 7, through Wednesday, Oct. 9, with many schools opening as hurricane shelters.
University of South Florida classes continued remotely on Monday and the campus is closed. On Tuesday, Oct. 8, and Wednesday, Oct. 9, all classes are canceled and all campuses will be closed.
HURRICANE TIPS:
-Have a three-day supply of non-perishable food, water, and a manual can opener.
-You should also have: A battery-powered radio or television, NOAA Weather Radio, and extra batteries A flashlight and extra batteries.
-A first aid kit and manual Sanitation and hygiene items.
-Matches in a waterproof container.
- Extra clothing and blankets.
-Cash and coins.
- Special needs items/ Meds.
-Items for infants.
- A portable crank or solar-powered USB charger for your cell phone.
Prepare to evacuate: Test your emergency communication plan, learn evacuation routes, and have a place to stay. If you evacuate CUT OFF YOUR POWER IN CASE OF FLOODING.

Don’t drive into flooded waters.
If you lose power, don’t bring generators or outdoor cooking devices inside.
