The National Parks Service webpage for the “Underground Railroad” has removed an image of and quote from Harriet Tubman, the railroad’s most famous “conductor,” following changes to government websites under the Trump administration. A comparison on the Wayback Machine shows that the quote and image were present on the webpage on January 21 but have since been removed. Additionally, references to “enslaved” people and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 have also been taken out.
