Movie Theater Etiquette: Here Are the 10 Most Unacceptable Behaviors

A poll on movie theater etiquette found the worst thing you can do is FaceTime someone during the movie. The rest of the top five are leaving trash behind, taking a phone call, revealing a plot point out loud, and putting your feet up on the seat in front of you.Because of the double feature, a new poll looked at what the rules are in 2024 when it comes to movie theater etiquette.

Here are he Top 10 things you should never do at a movie . . .

1. FaceTiming someone during the movie. Only 4% think it’s okay.

2. Leaving trash behind when you leave.

3. Taking a phone call.

4. Revealing a plot point out loud before it happens. 6% think that’s fine?

5. Putting your feet up on the seat in front of you

6. Bringing your dog, unless it’s a service animal.

7. Eating or drinking loudly

8. Talking at full volume during the movie. 11%, or one in nine people, think it’s okay. (???)

9. Taking photos, or recording video.

10. Yelling at a stranger because THEY did something rude. 17% say it’s okay to do.

At the other end of the spectrum: 92% say it’s okay to get up and use the bathroom during a movie . . . 86% are fine with people applauding at the end . . . and 80% say it’s okay to leave before the movie ends if you don’t like it.

Things we’re more split on: Saving seats, 58% say it’s okay . . . texting, 36% . . . making out with someone, 32% . . . and taking your shoes off, 24%.

Last stat: Most Americans now think it’s okay to sneak your own food in. 56% say it’s acceptable . . . 27% say no way . . . and 17% aren’t sure.
