Since she declared her candidacy in the presidential election, Kamala Harris has gotten bigger and bigger. But not quite as big as she is in Lawrence, Missouri. That’s where an artist named Stan Herd has transformed the landscape of a large field into a giant portrait of the vice president. “At my age, it’s just exciting,” Herd says of the likeness, which took 12 days of work and 25 yards of mulch to complete.

Almost more impressive than the work of art itself is the fact that Herd started the project nearly two weeks before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. He says he decided to create the giant portrait because he had a “gut feeling” Biden would end his run and Harris would enter the race. “This is a dance with nature,” Herd says.
