Now I haven’t been able to confirm this from either the Universal side or with anyone from Drake’s team, but there’s a buzz out there that Universal may be trying to settle with Drake and put an end to his lawsuit against them. Drake is suing his label partner UMG claiming that the music giant used bots and payola to artificially boost Kendrick Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” — the song that’s now being called the biggest track in the world. Drake’s legal team is arguing that Universal, which backs Kendrick, manipulated the numbers to hurt his reputation and distort the competition.
We’re also hearing that as part of the “alleged settlement” Drake would need to drop the lawsuit completely and re-sign with UMG.
Again, we haven’t been able to confirm this, but it would provide an interesting twist. Peep more details here.
